By Angie Owen in Events, Marina, St. Kitts, Yachting

Last week, we were lucky enough to witness some serious racing yachts in the waters around St Kitts participating in the Royal Ocean Racing Club’s (RORC) Caribbean 600. One of the great 600nm ocean race challenges, along with the Rolex Fastnet Race and the Rolex Sydney Hobart Race, the Caribbean 600 (running 22 February to 26 February this year) sees participating yachts circumnavigating 11 Caribbean islands, starting at ending in Fort Charlotte, English Harbour, Antigua, taking in places like St Maarten, Guadeloupe, Barbuda, St Kitts and Nevis, Saba and St Barths.

Since the first race in 2009, this event has attracted a wide selection of yachts including superyacht schooners and classics to the latest IRC designs. The winding island course requires crews to work...

Caribbean CrewFest brings superyachts and their crew to St Kitts

By Angie Owen in Events, Marina, Yachting

15 and 16 January saw Christophe Harbour play host to the first ever Caribbean CrewFest in partnership with ACREW Yachting. A resounding success, the event brought 10 yachts, including M/Y Naia, S/Y Perseus^3, M/Y Galaxy, S/Y Timoneer and M/Y Seawolf, into The Marina at Christophe Harbour, with 98 crewmembers taking part in five professional development workshops, networking and a fantastic crew party with Zoom Yachting.

The mainstay of the superyacht community, the crew are not only key influencers in the decision of where owners spend time (and return) with their yachts, but also integral to ensuring that owners crucially enjoy spending time on board. Christophe Harbour has always been committed to supporting crew and providing a welcoming place for them...

Customs House signals new era at Christophe Harbour Marina

By Katherine in Community, Marina, St. Kitts, Yachting

A new era was launched on Tuesday, 3rd November, 2015, when top government officials in St. Kitts and Nevis, led by the country’s Governor General, joined the developers of the Christophe Harbour community, for a historic ground breaking ceremony, to herald the official  start of construction of the Customs House.

The facility signalizes the first phase of the marina village and will accommodate the customs and immigration services at the Marina at Christophe Harbour, situated on the Southeast Peninsula of this gem of a Caribbean island, St. Kitts. A crew lounge, fitness centre, services for yachting guests, real estate sales along with marina services have been incorporated into the design.

The marina, which opened in early 2015, is already...

CUSTOM CRAFTED

By Katherine in Community, Marina, Shopping, St. Kitts, Yachting

Architect John Denton Haley is at it again—and the craftsmanship levels are high. The design mastermind behind the Bungalows, Pavilion, and SALT Plage, Haley’s fourth major project for Christophe Harbour will be the centerpiece of the newly-completed superyacht marina.

"This is the building that could define Christophe Harbour and St Kitts to the world."

Contemporary shops and residences will follow as the marina village grows, he explains, but the Customs House (a working title) will hold its own as classic and timeless—with the look and feel of a formidable shipping building or wharfside warehouse built long ago. At first sight of the design, Haley says many Kittitians often recall the circa-1894...

New Ownership + Momentum = SUCCESS

By Katherine in Community, Golf, Hotel, Marina, Real Estate, St. Kitts, Yachting

All around the peninsula, you can see the difference. Locals and longtime visitors can sense a change in the tradewinds.

Christophe Harbour is rapidly taking shape on St. Kitts, particularly noticeable in the past year since the Sugar Industry Diversity Foundation (SIDF) and the Darby Family Investment Group established their partnership.

Speedier, soulful progress can be seen at every curve, hillside and beach. SALT Plage is now open on Whitehouse Bay serving cool drinks and ceviche by the sea—the bar’s open-air design incorporates local artifacts from the island’s historic sugar and salt industries.

Dredging work and the first phase of the Marina is now proceeding on schedule, and is expected...
